Usage Monitoring – Device Message

This section introduces the calculation rule and data viewing operations of device messages on Developer Center.

Device Message Description

Device messages refer to the daily number of uplink and downlink messages per device on Developer Center, including

  1. Uplink and downlink messages defined by the device's TSL model
  2. Uplink and downlink transparent transmission messages
  3. Uplink and downlink messages for obtaining the device's location
  4. Uplink and downlink messages for OTA upgrades
  5. Messages for requesting network time from the platform
  6. Messages for obtaining the device's status, such as device status and module information

How to count device messages?

  1. Each 512 bytes is counted as 1 message. The size of a single message is divided by 512 bytes, and if the result is not an integer, round up to the nearest integer.
  2. Only the messages sent successfully will be counted.

Remaining Messages in Top-up Packages

This section displays the remaining quantity of device messages in top-up packages purchased under the account.

Note: When purchasing an activation code package, you have selected the device message allowance tier, for example, 4000 messages/day/device, that is, the maximum number of each device's daily uplink and downlink messages is 4000. The daily allowance is only valid for the current day. If the number of consumed messages exceeds the upper limit, you need to purchase top-up packages for deduction.

Excess Messages

① Billed Excess Messages: The 1st of each month (the calendar month) is the billing date for the previous month's bill. The usage of messages that exceed the activation code package allowance for all devices under the account each day of the previous month is billed as the “Billed” excess messages quantity. If multiple months of billed excess usage are unsettled, the cumulative total of the billed excess usage quantity for those months will be displayed here.

Example: From June 1, 2024, to June 30, 2024, the device message allowance for all devices under a developer account is 1500 messages/day/device. If a device generates 2000 messages on June 1 (exceeding the allowance by 500 messages), and 3000 messages on June 2 (exceeding the allowance by 1500 messages), and so on. The total number of messages exceeding the allowance for June is 100,000. Thus, on July 1, the billed excess message quantity for June is 100,000.

② Unbilled Excess Messages: The daily excess messages are calculated and displayed as the unbilled excess message quantity until the billing date.

Total excess messages = Billed excess messages + Unbilled excess messages

Note: To ensure the normal operation of your business, you need to purchase top-up packages to deduct the excess messages timely. Billed excess messages must be settled by the 15th of the billing month. To prevent service suspension due to overdue payment for excess resource usage, you can set the alert notification recipient to promptly monitor and address resource usage issues. Resource Alert Settings

Developer Center pushes resource alert notifications to your account by default. If you need to add more notification recipients, please configure the alert recipient information. For convenience, your sub-accounts are granted permission to maintain this list of notification recipients. You can jointly maintain the resource alert recipient list. When adding recipients, please ensure their email addresses are correctly entered to receive resource alert notifications.
