Usage Monitoring – Device OTA Upgrade
This section introduces the calculation rule and how to view the data of device OTA upgrades on Developer Center.
Device OTA Upgrade Description
Every device has the package allowance of 1 OTA upgrade per month with a maximum of 5 MB for each upgrade. 1. If the data consumed during each device OTA upgrade in a month does not exceed the limit but the total number of OTA upgrades exceeds the limit, you need to purchase an OTA top-up package. 2. If the data consumed during a device OTA upgrade exceeds the limit, you need to purchase an OTA top-up package.
Device OTA upgrade allowance consumption calculation: data consumed during an OTA upgrade / the maximum limit for the data consumed in an upgrade. If the result is not an integer, the value is rounded up.
Example: Each device can upgrade once per month with a data limit of 5 MB per upgrade. If an OTA upgrade of device A consumes data of 6 MB, the OTA upgrade attempts consumed is 6/5=1.2, rounded up to 2. Thus, the device consumes one OTA upgrade in the monthly package allowance and also consumes one OTA upgrade in the top-up package allowance.
If there are no OTA upgrade top-up packages available for the account's devices, any usage beyond the allowance will be considered excess and you must purchase OTA upgrade top-up packages to deduct the excess usage.
Fields
Remaining OTA Upgrade Attempts in Top-up Packages
This section displays the remaining quantity of device OTA upgrade attempts in top-up packages purchased under the account.
Note: Every device has the package allowance of 1 OTA upgrade per month with a maximum of 5 MB for each upgrade. The monthly allowance is only valid for the current month. If the number of consumed OTA upgrades exceeds the upper limit, you need to purchase top-up packages for deduction.
Excess OTA Upgrades
① Billed Excess OTA Upgrades: The 1st of each month (the calendar month) is the billing date for the previous month's bill. The usage of OTA upgrades that exceed the activation code package allowance for all devices under the account each day of the previous month is billed as the “Billed” excess OTA upgrades quantity. If multiple months of billed excess usage are unsettled, the cumulative total of the billed excess usage quantity for those months will be displayed here.
Example: From June 1 to June 30, 2024, 200 devices under a developer’s account consumed 200 OTA upgrade attempts on June 1 (each device was upgraded once on June 1). On June 2, 300 devices consumed 600 OTA upgrade attempts (each device was upgraded twice on June 2), and so on. The total number of OTA upgrades exceeding the allowance for June is 1,000. Thus, on July 1, the billed excess OTA upgrades for June is 1,000.
② Unbilled Excess OTA Upgrades: The monthly excess OTA upgrades are calculated and displayed as the unbilled excess OTA upgrade quantity until the billing date.
Total excess OTA upgrades = Billed excess OTA upgrades + Unbilled excess OTA upgrades
Note: To ensure the normal operation of your business, you need to purchase top-up packages to deduct the excess OTA upgrades timely. Billed excess OTA upgrades must be settled by the 15th of the billing month.
To prevent service suspension due to overdue payment for excess resource usage, you can set the alert notification recipient to promptly monitor and address resource usage issues.
